OK, so this blog won't be devoted entirely to Bruce Springsteen and Boss-related stuff, but with his tremendous new album, Working on a Dream still ranking #1 on my playlist (see my review of it for Blurt), that amazing Super Bowl performance still fresh in mind, and a tour to begin soon, well, a boy can't hardly help it.
One of the coolest things about the current Springsteen renaissance is that we're seeing how important he is to musicians 20, 30 years his junior -- the Hold Steady, Arcade Fire, and Gaslight Anthem especially. Columbia Records has put together a collection of performances of Springsteen classics by younger artists. While the whole collection isn't available, Pitchfork has posted a few choice clips, including Ted Leo performing "Dancing in the Dark" and Gaslight's Brian Fallon doing a killer acoustic cover of "Backstreets." Check out Fallon's performance.
Did you see the clip of Gabel doing "Reason to Believe" that I sent you (I think I did at least)...I actually didn't think it was that great, although I've only listened to it once and it grew on me a bit by the end.
